The Atlanta, Georgia office is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer, seeking a challenging career with a growth-oriented company committed to providing quality services to clients.  The employee will participate in geotechnical evaluations, subsurface investigations, and engineering design across a range of client sectors.  Golder’s global network of offices allows for many opportunities to work on complex and technically challenging projects locally and around the world.  The position requires travel and field work as dictated by project demands.

 

Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Scope, budget, execute, and interpret subsurface explorations, with senior technical advice and review;
  • Prepare geotechnical data reports;
  • Prepare geotechnical calculations and conduct modeling;
  • Prepare geotechnical recommendations reports with senior review;
  • Serve as a resident engineer / site lead for construction quality assurance;
  • Assist with Coal Combustion Residual characterization and evaluation of beneficial reuse and engineering containment solutions;
  • Ability to work with a team or with minimal supervision, and with contractors and cross-discipline in-house designers;
  • Be willing and able to work on projects involving dams and other retaining structures, lined structures, underground facilities, rock and soil mechanics, and other geotechnical applications;
  • Assist with writing reports, cost estimating, specifications, and permit documents with senior technical advice and review.

Job Requirements

Qualified candidates will possess a Master’s or Doctoral Degree in civil, geotechnical, geological, or mining engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering.  Some prior experience in the civil, geological, or mining engineering fields are a plus. 

 

The candidate shall have:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with excellent analytical abilities, leadership ability, and a positive attitude;
  • Ability to work both independently and within groups;
  • Competence in the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is necessary; 
  • FE/EIT or PE registration (or ability to obtain EIT within 1 year) required.

Qualified candidates will have excellent technical competency and skills to perform:

  • Complex settlement calculations;
  • Liquefaction analysis and seismic design;
  • Determinations of material strength and permeability;
  • Slope stability and seepage evaluations;
  • Soil filter, pipe crushing, and other geotechnical design calculations;
  • Deep and shallow foundations design;
  • MSE and reinforced slope design;
  • Soil-nail and tie-back soldier pile wall design.
