    Golder Associates Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for the Westborough, MA or Manchester, NH office.   In this role you will have the opportunity to use your experience and knowledge to manage and lead projects for clients in the transportation infrastructure, rail and power sectors, develop local, regional, and national clients, and mentor junior staff.



    • Provide senior technical leadership in performance of local and regional geotechnical engineering projects in Golder’s New England Operations (NEO) for transportation infrastructure, power, and private development sectors;
    • Provide primary client communications and presentations for geotechnical projects and proposals;
    • Provide technical expertise with design and construction for applied soil mechanics projects involving soft ground engineering, foundation engineering, subgrade improvement/stabilization, and landslide stabilization.
    • Provide final review of geotechnical design reports, letter reports, design memoranda, and construction monitoring reports.
    • Prepare Statements of Qualifications and technical proposals for public and private sector projects;
    • Serve as senior engineer to direct, oversee, and review geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations performed by Golder’s geotechnical staff;
    • Provide significant contribution to strategic planning, business development, client relationship management activities within the New England Operations  for the transportation, rail and power sectors;
    • Provide growth and sustainability of Golder’s NEO geotechnical practice;
    • Interface and share expertise and resources with Golder’s North American geotechnical practitioners.


    Job Requirements


    • A minimum of 15 years of experience providing comprehensive consulting and geotechnical engineering services;
    • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with geotechnical specialization;
    • Professional Engineer registration in Massachusetts;
    • Strong technical writing ability directly applicable to geotechnical design reports (large and small projects), letter reports, design memoranda and client correspondence.
    • Experience with development of technical proposals and Statement of Qualifications for geotechnical services for public and private sector clients.
    • Recognized expertise in soft ground-soil mechanics, and geotechnical evaluations for transportation infrastructure including:
      • deep and shallow foundation design for bridges,
      • earth retention structures,
      • large culvert replacements,
      • slope stability analyses for embankments and natural slopes,
      • consolidation and settlement evaluations,
      • ground modification alternatives/design,
      • slope erosion control and stabilization,
      • pavement systems, and
      • geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems.
    • Experience with New England geology (preferably southern New England), subsurface exploration programs; Cone Penetrometer Testing, and site characterization.
    • Experience with soft ground geotechnical engineering practices in New England, particularly as applied to differing local soft soil deposits (e.g., Boston blue clay, Presumpscot Formation marine clays, Connecticut Valley varved clays).
    • Experience with the development of geotechnical details and elements of design drawings and construction documents.

     Ability to manage a team of geotechnical engineers on large project         including investigations, lab and field testing programs, engineering analysis and design recommendations/reporting;

    • Ability to manage multiple projects and clients.
    • Active participation in development and leadership of NEO geotechnical business plans and growth strategies. 
    • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD specifications and DOT/agency design guidance documents.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office software and geotechnical software including: Slide, SLOPE/W, CPeT-IT, L-Pile, APLILE, FB MultiPier, Settle 3D, GRLWEAP.
    • Active participation in local professional organizations attended by clients and professional colleagues (e.g, ASCE, ACEC, etc.)

    Mentoring skills for career guidance for mid and junior-level staff.
