  • Job Responsibilities

    The Lakewood, Colorado office of Golder Associates, Inc. is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated entry-level geochemist/limnologist to join its dynamic team. The successful candidate will join a global team of pit lake specialists and will support geochemistry projects related to the mining industry, specifically, prediction of the limnology and water quality of lakes that develop within open-pit mines after mine closure. The candidate will also assist with a range of geochemistry projects to support clients within the mining, oil and gas, and power industries.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Providing support to all project phases ranging from initial proposal writing, subsequent field and analytical work, report writing, and office tasks
    • Data collection such as field sampling and coordination of laboratory testing
    • Data prediction including hydrodynamic, geochemical, and dynamic systems modeling of lake and reservoir systems, as well as water-rock systems
    • Projects typically involve permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation for the mining, oil and gas, and power industries.

    Job Requirements

    The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for both limnology and geochemistry, possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills, be committed to producing technically excellent work in a client-driven environment, and have the following preferred qualifications:

    • Degree in Geochemistry, Limnology, or a related field, ideally with a strong quantitative background and mining-related emphasis.
    • Understanding of geology and physical limnology.
    • Ability to coordinate and execute field programs using proper sampling techniques.
    • Experience with data management tools (Excel, Access, Python).
    • Strong interpersonal skills within a team environment and with clients.
    • Good technical writing skills.
    • Willingness to travel to domestic and international project locations.
    • The candidate must be willing to work in the United States, possess a valid driver's license, and pass a pre-employment physical (including drug screening) and criminal background check.

    Desired skills (not required):

    • Experience with hydrodynamic modeling software (e.g. CEQUALW2, GEMMS)
    • Experience with geochemical modeling software (e.g. PHREEQC)
    • Experience with water balance modeling using dynamic systems software (e.g. GoldSim)
    • Interest in eutrophication problems, aquatic ecosystems, toxicology, and general lake management
    • Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish
    • Familiarity with mining industry guidance documents used for mine waste characterization and mine water quality prediction (e.g., MEND, GARD Guide)
    • Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) surface mine certification and experience working at a mine site
    • A passion and willingness work on a broad range of topics.
